Formed in 2006, the district was a final result of an effort to regionalize local public health services in the lower Connecticut River Valley.
If you live in Old Saybrook, Clinton, Deep River or Haddam, the CRAHD is your local health department. CRAHD provides essential public health services to its four communities. These services include but are not limited to: monitoring the health status of the population, disease control and prevention and dedication to reducing the risk of disease, promoting better health in adults and children including promotion of healthy lifestyles, health education for a better informed population, environmental health and code compliance to ensure safe water, food, public facilities, sanitation, waste water disposal, public pools, day care centers, vermin control and minimum housing standards, preparing for health emergencies such as a new emerging infection or a shift in a perennial disease, and planning and implementing community public health programs.
CRAHD serves its population of over 36,000 year round residents, as well as a seasonal swell in population of our shoreline towns during the summer months. We are committed to improving the health and well being of our residents and being a source of information for health related concerns.
To provide quality core local public health services to the district's towns through a variety of education, monitoring, promotion, empowerment, advocacy, and enforcement activities with the goal of improving the health status of its residents.
